Import

Import your waitlist, referrals and all.

LaunchList's import brings your waitlist in from a CSV file or another waitlist tool's export. The signup dates, referral codes and who referred whom in your file come with it.

How it works

A waitlist CSV import that runs only when you start it.

The import runs in the background, so you can close the sheet. A notification and an email tell you when it is done.

  1. Upload your file

In Audience, open Signups and press "Import". Use the export from the tool you are leaving, or start from the template CSV if you are putting a list together by hand.
  2. Match the columns

Each column shows two sample values and the field it will fill. Change any match you disagree with, or set it to "Don't import". A column nothing matches is kept as a custom field.
  3. Choose and start

Pick whether people you already have are skipped or updated, then start the import. A summary counts what was imported, updated, skipped or rejected.
Referrals

Migrate a waitlist without losing who referred whom.

Once every row is in, a second pass over the whole file joins each person to the friend who brought them.

  • The referral graph, rebuilt

From the referral code and referred-by columns, each referrer is linked to the people they brought in, and their referral count is recounted.

  • Referrers named by email or by code

The referred-by column can hold an email address or a referral code from the same file. A referrer who is in neither the file nor your audience is left off, and the person they referred still arrives.

  • Points carried onto the leaderboard

Map a points or referral count column to Points, and the leaderboard starts from those scores instead of from zero.

  • The count on their record

Open a referrer after the run and their record says how many signups they brought in, with their own referral link beside it.

When to use it

Import your waitlist instead of starting over.

A good fit when

  • You are leaving another waitlist tool, and your people have already shared their referral links.
  • Your list lives in a spreadsheet, a form tool or your own database, and you can save it as a CSV.
  • Some of your signups gave a phone number and no email address.
  • Your list is already on LaunchList, in an older account, and you want it in this one without a file.

Not the right fit when

  • You want LaunchList to pull the list out of your old tool for you. Other tools come in as an exported file, never through a login.
  • You want two tools kept in step. An import is a one-time copy, so for a steady feed from another app, send its signups through the API.
  • You need each person to keep the exact number your old tool gave them. LaunchList works places out again from signup times and points, so a number can shift.
The details

What else moves in, and what you can take back out.

  • Stages and countries

A Stage column puts each person straight into that stage of your funnel, and a Country column of two-letter codes says where they are. A stage your project does not have is refused for that row, and nobody can arrive already invited.
  • A file of what was left out

Skipped and rejected rows download as their own CSV, with the reason for each one, such as an invalid email address or a person already in your audience.
  • Import through the API

Send people in batches of up to 10,000 under the same rules as a file, and tag each batch with up to 20 tag names. One audience.imported webhook tells the rest of your stack when the run lands.
  • Moving from an earlier LaunchList account

Prove the older account is yours and copy its waitlist here. Signups, referral codes and places in line come with it, and nobody is emailed.
  • Export any time

Download your audience as a CSV whenever you want. Filter it first and the file holds exactly the rows you see.
  • You send the first email

An import sends no confirmation and no welcome, and starts no automation. You say whether the people in the file asked to hear from you: if they did, they arrive subscribed; if you are not sure, they arrive not subscribed and you can mark them as subscribed later.

FAQ

What carries over when you import your waitlist.

Will people keep their place in line after an import?
Yes, when your file has each person's original signup date and you map that column to Joined date. The line is ordered by points and then by signup time, so imported people slot in where they belong. A row with no readable date joins at the time of the import.
Will my old referral links still work after I move?
The codes do. Each person keeps the referral code from your file, unless that code is already taken in LaunchList, and their new LaunchList link carries it. Links on your old tool's address stay with that tool, so send people their new link.
Can I import people who signed up with a phone number?
Yes. A row with only a phone number becomes a phone contact, and a row with neither is rejected. When a row has both, the email is who they are and the phone number is kept on their record.
What trust verdict do imported contacts get?
Unknown. A file does not prove that anyone owns their address, so every imported contact starts at Unknown, whatever your old tool thought of them.
Can I move my waitlist from Viral Loops to LaunchList?
Yes. Export your participants from Viral Loops and upload the file. LaunchList recognizes the export and maps its columns, referral codes and referrers included, and you check the mapping before anything is imported. Waitlister, GetWaitlist, Prefinery and KickoffLabs exports work the same way.
Is importing a waitlist included on the Free plan?
Yes. Importing a file from any tool, and exporting your list, are on the Free plan. Imported people count toward its 100 contacts like any other signup.
