# Get a Slack message for every waitlist signup

LaunchList posts to Slack through an automation tool. Send the signup.created webhook to Zapier, Make or n8n, add a step that posts to Slack, and every new signup appears in your channel within seconds, in the words you choose.

How it connects: Through Zapier, Make or n8n. Canonical page: https://getlaunchlist.com/plugins/slack. Updated 2026-10-15.

## Set it up

1. **Start with a webhook trigger.** In Zapier, use **Webhooks by Zapier** with **Catch Hook**. In Make, a custom webhook. In n8n, a **Webhook** node set to POST. Copy the URL it gives you.
2. **Add the URL to LaunchList.** Open **Embed & API**, then **Developers**, then **Webhooks**. Press **New endpoint**, paste the URL and choose `signup.created`.
3. **Send a test event.** Press **Send test** on the endpoint so your automation tool can read the fields, such as the signup's name and email.
4. **Add a Slack step and turn it on.** Add a step that sends a message to a channel, write the message with the fields from the event, and turn the Zap, scenario or workflow on.

## Why the message goes through an automation tool

Slack's incoming webhooks expect a message already written in Slack's format. LaunchList sends an
event, a JSON body that describes what happened, so the two do not fit together on their own. Zapier,
Make and n8n sit in the middle: they read the event and write the message. That also means you choose
exactly what the message says.

If you would rather not use an automation tool, a small relay of your own, such as a Cloudflare
Worker, can reshape the event into a Slack message.

## A message worth reading

Keep it short, and put the name first. With the fields from `signup.created`, a message like this
reads well in a busy channel:

```text
New signup: Ada (ada@lovelace.dev)
```

`Data Object Name` and `Data Object Email` fill it in. Not every form asks for a name, so check the
test event first and fall back to the email alone. For referrals, start a second Zap from
`referral.made`, which fires when a referral is credited, and post "Someone just referred a friend".

## Pick the events your team wants to hear

| Post a message when | Send this event |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------- |
| Someone joins the waitlist         | `signup.created`    |
| A signup confirms their email      | `contact.verified`  |
| A referral is credited             | `referral.made`     |
| Someone reaches a reward           | `reward.granted`    |
| Someone uses their invite          | `invite.redeemed`   |
| An email bounces or is marked spam | `email.bounced`, `email.complained` |

One endpoint can carry several events. Use a filter or a router step to send each one to its own
channel, such as signups to #launch and bounces to #ops.

## Signups in Slack are a copy of your audience

Each message puts a person's details in Slack, outside LaunchList. Post to a private channel, and when
someone asks you to delete their data, delete the messages about them in Slack too.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does LaunchList have a Slack app?

No. LaunchList sends a webhook to Zapier, Make or n8n, and the automation tool posts the message to Slack. That takes a few minutes to set up and needs no code.

### Why can't I paste a Slack incoming webhook into LaunchList?

A Slack incoming webhook only accepts a message in Slack's own format, with a `text` or `blocks` field. A LaunchList event is a different JSON body, so Slack refuses it. An automation tool, or a small relay of your own, turns the event into a Slack message.

### Can I get a message only for confirmed signups?

Yes. Send `contact.verified` instead of `signup.created`. It fires when a signup confirms their email, so the channel only shows people who did.

### Will a launch flood the channel?

It can, since every signup is one message. Post only the events your team acts on, filter in your automation tool, or collect signups into one message a day. LaunchList also emails you your first signup, each milestone, and a daily or weekly summary.

### Can I post to Discord or Microsoft Teams instead?

Yes, the same way. Zapier, Make and n8n all have steps for Discord and Teams, so swap the Slack step for one of those.
