Referral program

Referral waitlist software that only rewards real friends.

LaunchList's referral waitlist software gives everyone on your waitlist a personal link and moves them up the line for each real friend who joins through it. You decide what each referral earns.

How it works

Waitlist referral tracking that runs while you build.

It is on from your first signup, with nothing to switch on, and nobody counts anything by hand.

  1. They get a link

Everyone who joins gets a personal referral link the moment they sign up, ready to copy or send to a friend.
  2. A friend signs up through it

On your Launch page or your own site. Once the friend confirms their email, the referral is credited to whoever shared the link.
  3. They move up the line

Each credited referral moves the sharer up your waitlist and closer to the next reward on your ladder.
Rewards

Waitlist referral rewards at the numbers you pick.

From a few spots up the line to a call with your team, you decide what each reward is and how many referrals it takes. Rewards start on the Collect plan.

  • An easy first win

Put the first reward at one referral, so a new sharer wins something early, then space the rest out to the fiftieth referral or beyond.

  • Some hand themselves out

Moving someone up a set number of spots, giving bonus points or adding a tag happens the moment the reward is earned.

  • The rest, you send

For early access, merch or a call, the Rewards section lists who earned it and is still waiting. Export the list, then mark each one given.

  • They see what is next

Add the Rewards block to your status page, and each signup sees how many more referrals their next reward takes.

Integrity

Referral fraud checks before a friend counts.

Prizes draw people who want to win without sharing. So on top of the spam checks every signup passes, each referral gets its own.

  • No referring yourself

A second signup from the same device earns nothing. Sharing an office or home network is not treated as self-referral, so coworkers and family still count.

  • A cap per IP address

One person can only earn so many referrals from a single IP address. You set the number.

  • An hourly ceiling

Referrals that pile up faster than anyone really shares stop counting past an hourly limit, which you can also tune.

  • Spam never earns or gives credit

A signup held as spam, a disposable address or one of a cluster from a single device is left out. If fraud turns up later, the credit is taken back.

When to use it

Referral waitlist software works when people know people.

A referral program spreads interest that already exists. It cannot create it.

A good fit when

  • Your first users know people like themselves: founders who know founders, developers who know developers.
  • You have something to give that costs you little: early access, a founding member badge, merch or a call with your team.
  • You let people in by their place in line, so moving up is a real reason to share.
  • You are running a prize or a race and need the count to hold up when someone tries to game it.

Not the right fit when

  • Nobody signs up on their own yet. Fix the page and where you share it first, then add rewards.
  • You want to pay people for sales after launch. LaunchList rewards friends who join your waitlist, not purchases, so an affiliate tool fits better.
  • You want to draw a random winner from everyone who shared. LaunchList does not run giveaway draws.
The details

Referral points, leaderboards and webhooks for the whole launch.

  • A leaderboard anywhere

Show top sharers on your page, or embed the leaderboard on your own site so visitors see the race before they join.
  • Points for a follow or a join

Give points when someone taps through to follow you on X or join your Discord. Points move people up the line, and only referrals earn rewards. From the Collect plan
  • Try it before you share

In test mode you can refer yourself from one laptop and watch the whole loop work. Test signups never touch your real list or leaderboard.
  • Emails that ask them to share

An automation can check whether someone has referred anyone yet and follow up with the ones who have not. From the Launch plan
  • See the loop working

Referred against organic growth over time, your top referrers, how many referred signups go on to refer someone, and your viral coefficient: how many of every 100 confirmed signups came through a referral.
  • Webhooks and API

Get a webhook when a referral is credited or rejected, and read referral data through the API.

FAQ

Waitlist referral questions before you launch.

What does referral waitlist software do?
It gives everyone who joins your waitlist a personal link to share. When a friend signs up through that link, the person who shared it gets credit, which moves them up the list or earns a reward you set. The people already waiting become the way you reach the next ones, and LaunchList checks and counts every referral for you.
When does a waitlist referral count?
Waitlist forms ask new signups to confirm their email, so by default a referral counts once the friend confirms. If you turn confirmation off on a form, or people sign up with a phone number or username, it counts at signup instead. Either way it has to pass the fraud checks first.
What if a referred friend signs up days later?
It still counts. The referral code is kept in their browser for at least 90 days, so they can read other pages, leave and come back, and whoever shared the link is still credited.
Can the referral checks block a real friend?
Rarely. The checks look for signs of fraud, such as one device or one IP address earning again and again, not for addresses that look unusual, so a friend on a small company's domain still counts. A real friend can miss out when more people join through one link from the same IP address than the limit you set. If you mark a signup as fake yourself, any credit it gave is taken back.
Can referral links point to my own website?
Yes. Links can point to the page LaunchList hosts for you, to your own site, or to any address you choose, such as an app you built with our API. Add the signup form to your site as an embed and the referral is credited wherever the friend signs up.
Can I bring my referrals from another waitlist tool?
Yes. Import the export file from Waitlister, GetWaitlist, Prefinery, KickoffLabs or Viral Loops, and the record of who referred whom comes with it.
Are referrals included on the Free plan?
Yes. Referral links, the leaderboard, a status page for every signup and the fraud checks come with the Free plan. Rewards and points for follows and shares come with the Collect, Launch and Grow plans. The automations that follow up with people who have not referred anyone yet come with the Launch and Grow plans.
