Before you post on Reddit

Subreddits are communities on Reddit, each with its own rule about posting your own product.

Reddit sends real people and blunt feedback, but every subreddit sets its own rule about posting your own product, and most removals come from breaking it. These are the subreddits where a founder can post, with the rule each one states.

Start with the one closest to your stage: a subreddit for testers before launch, one for side projects once people can try it. For communities outside Reddit, see Forums.

How to do it well

  • Read the rule on each record and in the subreddit's sidebar before you post.
  • Post from an account with some history, not one made today.
  • Lead with what you built and what you learned, then the link.
  • Stay for the first hour and reply to every comment.

How to post without getting removed

Moderators remove anything that reads like an ad. A few habits keep a post up.

  • Use the flair or the thread the subreddit asks for, such as a weekly promotion thread.
  • Post once per subreddit, and come back only with something new to say.
  • Write it yourself: r/Entrepreneur, for one, says AI-generated posts may be removed.
  • Never ask friends to upvote; Reddit detects vote rings and can ban the account.

Questions founders ask

Which subreddits allow self-promotion?

A few, each with a rule. r/SideProject and r/alphaandbetausers are made for sharing what you built; r/indiehackers allows one self-promotion post per product; r/startups only in its Share Your Startup thread. r/Entrepreneur bars promotion and keeps free offers to its weekly threads.

How do I post my startup on Reddit without getting banned?

Follow each subreddit's rule. Read its sidebar first, post from an account with some history, use the flair it asks for, and reply to every comment. The rule for each subreddit is on its record.

What is the best time to post on Reddit?

When the subreddit's readers are awake, which for most startup subreddits means a weekday morning, US time. More important than the hour is being there to reply for the first hour after you post.

How often can I post my product on Reddit?

Once per subreddit, then only with something new. r/indiehackers states it outright: one self-promotion post per product. Posting the same link again soon is the quickest way to a ban.

Do Reddit links help SEO?

No. Reddit marks links in posts nofollow, so they pass no search credit. Post for the visitors and the feedback.

Can I post a waitlist or a beta on Reddit?

Yes, in r/alphaandbetausers, where founders look for testers. Most other subreddits want something people can use today. For more places that take a waitlist, see Before you launch.

Should I post from a new Reddit account?

No. Many subreddits hide or remove posts from new accounts, and a fresh account that only posts its own link looks like spam. Take part for a few weeks first.

How many subreddits should I post in?

Three to five that fit, a few days apart. Posting the same text to many subreddits on the same day reads as spam and gets removed.

Can I use AI to write my Reddit post?

Write it yourself. Some subreddits remove AI-generated posts; r/Entrepreneur says so in its rules. Readers there spot it fast and say so in the comments.

Why was my Reddit post removed?

Usually for breaking a rule: a link with no context, the wrong flair, an account that is too new, or promotion outside the thread for it. Message the moderators politely to ask; do not post it again.

Claim this listing

Claiming is free. It lets you correct the details we cannot see from outside, so founders get the right picture before they submit.

What you can do

  • Correct the facts we cannot measure: the price, the submit link, review time, whether a badge or an account is needed, whether you take products before launch and the one-line description.
  • Each fact you confirm shows "Confirmed by owner" on your listing.
  • Get a "Listed on LaunchList" badge for your site, if you want one.

What it does not change

  • Your rank. Claiming never moves you up or down.
  • What we measure stays ours: whether the site is alive, whether its link counts and its newest listing.

How we check it is you

Give us the Reddit username of one of the subreddit's moderators and an email to reach you. We check each claim by hand, usually within a few days.
